Panettone is a traditional sweet Italian bread typically sprinkled with raisins, almonds, and citruses. Although the origin story of this cake is uncertain, its history traces back to 15th century Milan. According to one of the legends, the chef accidentally burned the Christmas cake intended for II Duce’s holiday feast. A young cook, Toni, saved the day by making a sweet loaf from leftover ingredients and raisins, which the Duke named pan de Toni, also known as panettone today.
